I’m going to give you one of my biggest weight loss tips for free. So many online trainers try to charge for this, but I want you to succeed. So here it is.
If you’re like me, you enjoy the finer things in life. A glass of wine. A decent burger. Pizza after a good week. These things get in the way when you’re trying to lose body fat — but they don’t have to.
The Problem With Daily Calorie Tracking
Most people use apps like MyFitnessPal, which is excellent. But those apps track calories on a daily basis. And this is where a lot of people fall apart.
You’re great Monday to Thursday. Then Friday comes: a few drinks after work. Saturday: brunch and wine with friends. Evening out. Sunday: a takeaway to recover. Monday morning, back on the scales, and you’ve lost almost nothing for the week.
That cycle kills people’s motivation — even when they’re actually making progress during the week.
The Fix: Track By Week, Not By Day
Here’s the change that makes everything easier. Instead of a daily limit, work out your weekly calorie budget.
If your target is 2,000 calories a day to lose weight, that’s 14,000 calories for the full week. If Friday to Sunday your intake goes sideways, you’ll see exactly how many calories you have left Monday to Thursday to pull it back.
You stay under your weekly deficit overall. You weigh in Friday before you go out, and you’re down a pound. You enjoyed your weekend and still made progress.
It Works Because It’s Realistic
I’ve been using this approach with clients for years, and they consistently get results because they know how to manage the week as a whole — not panic after a single day of eating.
You can lose weight and still enjoy life. That’s not a compromise. That’s the only way it actually works long-term.
